Abstract

This bachelor thesis aims to investigate the importance of the Müllerbach for the textile industry in Dornbirn during the industrialization of the 19th century. The Müllerbach serves as an example of the flowing waters of Dornbirn and should thus allow for conclusions about other streams in the Dornbirn municipal area to be drawn, in particular relating to what extent they were important for the emergence and flourishing of the textile industry in Dornbirn. As part of the analysis, waterpower is presented as a central source of energy for textile companies. Special attention is paid to the extension of the Müllerbach by Karl Ulmer, which led to the development of a new strand of textile businesses in Dornbirn.
