Abstract

This paper compares two extreme views on the Massacre of Nanjing, especially focusing on selected works of Japanese revisionists. First, an overview about the discussion whether the crimes committed by Japanese troops in Nanjing are to be classified as genocide shall be given. It will then be shown that both sides use similar methods to achieve their goals, which means either to portray the Massacre as a minor incident or as a crime comparable to the Holocaust. The revisionist tactics follow patterns that fit into Adam Jones classification of denials of genocides.
