Abstract

The seminar-paper deals with the construction of the religious conflict in former British-India as one of the consequences of the implementation of population census by the colonial power of Great Britain. It examines how this cleavage through the society – also known as communalism – developed and deepened since its beginning until the independence of British-India and its division in Pakistan and India in 1948 as well as its aftermath for the local population. The crucial role of the colonial rule of Great Britain will be regarded in the context of the whole development.
